Congratulations to Ioana Sporea on her successful PhD completion!
Tuesday 22 May 2012
The Department is very pleased to announce that Ioana Sporea successfully passed her PhD on 4 May pending -- as always -- the minor corrections. The external and internal examiners were Dr Thomas Nowotny from the University of Sussex and Prof Yaochu Jin. Her supervisor was Dr Andre Gruning and she was co-supervised by Dr Jonathan Clark.
Ioana's PhD project involved studying existing supervised learning algorithms for networks of spiking neurons and developing new learning procedures for feed-forward networks by combining different forms of plasticity with a well-known learning paradigm of gradient descent. The general purpose aspect of the newly-developed learning algorithm allows it to be applied to any neuron model and to be used with different coding schemes of spike timing patterns.
This work is currently under revision for Neural Computation. Pre-print available at: http://arxiv.org/pdf/1202.2249v1
