Computing Student Awarded Student of the Year Award for Professional Training
Friday 31 August 2012
At the end of the 2011-12 academic session, our student Vedika Dalmia was awarded the prestigious University of Surrey Student of the Year Award for Professional Training.

The award recognizes the extent to which Vedika has embraced the nature of Professional Training through her year out in industry at IBM Hursley, and also through two summers spent at IBM as a Software Development Intern (2009) and Extreme Blue Summer Intern (2011).
Vedika beat strong competition from the two runners-up, representing other Departments, to be unanimously awarded the Student of the Year prize of £300 by the panel, who agreed that her final presentation was sophisticated, marked by both humour and impact, and demonstrated the benefits of Professional Training both to herself and to other students.
Vedika is no stranger to awards, having previously been a recipient of the Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship, and is described as a fantastic example to other students.
The award was officially presented at the Graduation Ceremony.
Vedika is now settling into her new role as a Financial Software Developer at Bloomberg, which will almost certainly expose her to ways in which such awards might be invested in future.
