Biography

Thomas Diakos started his PhD at the University of Surrey in November 2009 under the supervision of Dr Hans Georg Schaathun (later Dr Johann Briffa) and co-supervision of Dr Tim Brown from CCSR . He is a member of the Multimedia Security and Forensics (MSF) group, led by Prof Anthony T.S.Ho.

Thomas studied A - Level Mathematics, Physics and Computing at the Grammar School Nicosia in his native Cyprus, from where he graduated in 2003. He received his BEng degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Sheffield in 2008, and his MSc degree in Communications and Signal Processing in 2009 from the University of Bristol.

In 2009 he started his PhD in Mobile Phone Security, concerned primarily with Near Field Communications (NFC) devices and the level to which they provide financial transaction security and user anonymity. His project is funded by Consult Hyperion and EPSRC.

Research Interests

Thomas, as a young researcher, is still exploring his research options but primarily he is interested in financial security (e-banking, e-commerce and electronic transactions), multimedia security, networks and protocols and digital signal processing.
