Biography
Wissam was born in Basra, Iraq. He received BSc(Eng) and MSc(Eng) degrees both in Computer Engineering with distinction from the University of Basrah, Iraq, in 2001 and 2005, respectively.
He was a Computing Labs Instructor at the Department of Computer Engineering, University of Basrah 2003-2005, and upon graduation he joined the GSCS IT support team, which was his first technical position within IT industries.
From 2005 to 2010 he held several IT technical / research development positions within both industrial and Higher Education environments such as South Refineries Company, University of Basrah,UK's government FCO & DFID, University of East Anglia and Oilennium Ltd. He then decided to back to academia as a Research Student with the University of Surrey where he is currently pursuing the PhD starting from January 2011.
Wissam is a member of the Nature Inspired Computing and Engineering (NICE) research group, led by Prof. Yaochu Jin. He is also a member of the Multimedia Security and Forensics (MSF) group at the Department of Computing, University of Surrey. His current research is to develop an algorithm for copyright protection and forensics of bootleg images funded by EPSRC and Intellas UK. The industrial CASE (Collaborative Awards in Science and Engineering) studentship was awarded via the Digital Systems Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) through an open competition on behalf of EPSRC.
