Abstract

There is now considerable growth in the 'mixed race' population in Britain. While the census (and quantitative studies about this population in the USA) has provided valuable information about the numbers of people who claim mixed ancestry, we still know little about how mixed people (and different types of mixed people) think about and experience their mixed heritage. I will provide some tentative and preliminary thoughts, drawing on an ongoing project which examines the identities and experiences of various types of mixed young people in Britain.
