Nick Walters (Educational Studies, UNIS)
Nick Walters is Senior Staff Tutor in Educational Studies, School of Arts, University of Surrey, and has been working on issues of education and unemployment for over 15 years. He leads a small team at the Guildford Institute of the University of Surrey working on a portfolio of projects combating social exclusion. He has special interest in the relationships between policy, practice and strategies related to social exclusion, especially across the EU. He is project manager for a large research and development project examining the relationship between discrimination and employability, funded by EU EQUAL and working with 7 other UK Universities in partnership with a transnational group from 6 further EU states and two accession states. Current work at the Institute includes research on Roma people's changing work patterns, the exclusion of children and human rights, the harassment of women in small businesses, and empowerment and integration. Nick also undertakes a range of evaluation projects and has a special interest in evaluation methodology.
He is joined by Linda Townsend and Florina Zoltan, who are the UK's Project Officers on the Roma project, funded by the EU Fifth Framework and led by the University of Barcelona, and Belinda Freda who is Project Officer on the EU EQUAL programme.
