Sleepwalking to a multicultural law? (paper)

Dr Prakash Shah, Senior Lecturer, Department of Law, Queen Mary, University of London

This presentation counters the current public discourse that announces an end to multiculturalism and emphasises a set of core values that British people or Europeans need to share in common. Demographic developments and social trends actually defy this top down insistence on homogeneity, and the resultant ethnic plurality is increasingly being felt in the official legal realm too. These counter-trends would appear to suggest that a multicultural approach to law is already upon us and is to remain a part of the British and European future.
