In this session we will examine how academic research can engage with particular policy issues and with those delivering public services.
WeLReN is a multidisciplinary network of primary care individuals and practices interested in research that aims to:

  • Produce high quality research relevant to practitioners, the public, services and organisations in primary care
  • Build primary care research capacity
  • To develop a culture of reflection and inquiry throughout primary health care
  • Maintain an infrastructure of multi-disciplinary facilitation and communication
  • Agree contracts with partner agencies and pathways between their work programmes
  • Provide systematic information about research activities to local partners

WeLReN works closely with Imperial College, Brunel and Thames Valley universities. CRONEM is now linked to WeLReN through a pilot study of Gujarati early childrearing beliefs and practices, which is being led by one of CRONEM's Advisory Board members, Dr. Begum Maitra, in collaboration with John Eade. We will make an interim report on the findings at the 2005 WeLReN summer conference, Northwick Park Hospital.
