Biography

I am a Counselling Psychologist at Doctorate level accredited with the Health Professions Council. I am experienced in helping people with a range of emotional, behavioural and psychological difficulties including relationship difficulties, depression, PTSD, eating disorders, anxiety disorders such as phobias, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Generalised Anxiety Disorder and panic attacks.
My approach to counselling and psychotherapy is founded on effective evidence-based practice. I have been trained in Cognitive Behavioural (CBT), Psychodynamic and Person-Centred Therapy which I integrate respectfully into my practice in accordance to each client’s needs and goals for therapy. In addition to these main theoretical models, my work is informed by other approaches such as Existential ideas and practices of Mindfulness. I place a great emphasis on the therapeutic relationship believing that this is also a powerful tool for change, therefore this is always my starting point when I first meet someone. My first priority is to listen to my client and provide a safe space where my client and I can explore and make sense of their problems. Having developed a good, safe and helpful relationship with my clients, and having understood their own personal view of their problems, I then use theory and techniques to inform my work with them in a collaborative process.
I also run various Cognitive Behavioural workshops at the Centre for Wellbeing including managing anxiety and stress, building self-confidence and assertiveness training.
