Financial Difficulties

Hardship Funds

Student Advice administers various University Funds.  Students may find themselves in financial hardship for a variety of reasons and Student Advice aims to help as many eligible students as possible.  Priority must be given to those in unforeseen, exceptional and extreme financial hardship.

Are you eligible?

• Have you accessed all possible sources of income?
• Are in extreme, exceptional and unforeseen hardship?
• Can you provide documentary evidence of your situation?

All those who wish to apply must do so by completing an application form, available on the website (see below), by email via ask@surrey.ac.uk and also at the Centre. The same application form is used for all funds, reflecting the Centre’s firm commitment to equality and diversity.

Please pull the form down and sign, date and add your bank details to it.

The documentary evidence is mandatory.  Only when you have collected together all supporting documents are you ready to return your application as a scanned document via email.  You will be contacted to arrange an interview on receipt.

All students must visit the service for interview unless physically unable to do so, in which case telephone interview is available by prior arrangement.

Please note, there are situations where advisers would recommend a loan rather than a grant but the same elements of eligibility priority and need are relevant.
