Further Advice to students from the Academic Registrar:

Further to the announcement of the postponement of examinations on Friday 18 and Saturday 19 January, notified to you on the student snowpage, SurreyNet and the home pages of the Current Student Site; the Student Union website and Facebook, I am now able to update you with this further advice.

The examinations which were postponed on Friday 18 and Saturday 19 January have been scheduled for later this week – between Wednesday 23 and Saturday 26 January 2013 as previously advised.

All students are expected to attend as appropriate for these rescheduled examinations in line with the adverse weather policy.  If you think that you will not be to attend an examination at the rescheduled time you should contact your Faculty Registrar as soon as possible to discuss your particular situation.   If your reasons for non attendance are considered to be valid, you will be permitted a deferred assessment.

Senate has agreed that these deferred examinations will be scheduled for Friday 24 and Saturday 25 May prior to the start of the Semester 2 diet of examinations.    The Semester 2 diet of examinations will then commence on Tuesday 28 May 2013, the day after the May Bank Holiday.

Important Note: This examination timetable has been updated on 2 January 2013.  It is the students’ responsibility to check for any changes since the last version was posted (17 December 2012). Details of the modules affected/changed are available at your Faculty Registry Office.

Examinations will be scheduled according to these principles:

  • Scheduling will be between 9.00am and 9.00pm each day, including Saturdays.
  • You may have two examinations in one day. Where you have more than one examination in a day, the total number of hours of examinations in any one day will not normally be more than four (ie if you have a 3 hour examination and a 1 hour examination or two 2-hour examinations but not 2 x 3 hour examinations)
  • You will not normally have more than 2 examinations in a 48 hour period. Where you have an examination in the evening one day (i.e. finishing after 6.30pm), you will not have an examination before 10.30am the following morning.
  • If you have two examinations on one day, the minimum period of time between examinations will be 90 minutes.

You will be required to produce your ID card in order to sit an examination. If you do not have a valid ID card you will be required to go to the Student Services Centre prior to the start of the examination to have your identity verified and be given a confirmation slip to enable you to enter the examination venue. This slip is valid for one exam only.
