Progress monitoring

In addition to regular supervisory sessions, the University of Surrey requires that two formal progress reviews take place each year: six-monthly review and the annual review

Six-monthly review

The six-monthly review is intended to monitor your progress against any previously agreed targets, ensure that regular supervisory sessions are useful, and to raise any issues you may be experiencing with your research.

Annual review

The annual review is the formal mechanism by which the University evaluates the progress you are making on your research programme. The review covers the progress you have made against targets, research outputs, training needs, and teaching/demonstrating responsibilities. The review also offers students the opportunity to raise any concerns.

It is compulsory that every postgraduate research student undertakes a review each year. An unsatisfactory progress outcome at an annual review or failure to attend the annual review will result in the initiation of unsatisfactory academic progress procedures.

In order to get the most out of your annual review and six-monthly reviews the Researcher Development Programme offer training.
