Medical Radiation Imaging Research

When?
Wednesday 23 January 2013, 14:00 to 15:00
Where?
CVSSP Seminar Room (40bAB05)
Open to:
Public, Staff, Students
Speaker:
Prof Philip Evans, CVSSP, University of Surrey

Abstract:

The seminar will give an overview of research in medical radiation imaging with particular emphasis on applications in radiotherapy. The strategy involves 1) the translation of mainstream physics and engineering to the challenges of improving spatial and dosimetric accuracy, 2) development of clinical proof of concept and 3) support for evaluation of patient impact in clinical trials.

Examples include the development of novel sensor technology, models relating imaging information to dosimetry and trials of intensity modulated radiotherapy and image guided radiotherapy in common cancers - breast, prostate, head and neck and lung. Other areas include the development of imaging methods for proton radiotherapy and dosimetry of a novel high energy electron source.
