Abstract: The talk will offer a brief overview of Morphable Models and then highlight some of the underlying theoretical and practical problems that I have encountered. The talk will use examples from my PhD work, where I developed a Morphable Model of the face and ear and made some progress in increasing the robustness of the modelling process. Examples will also be taken from my more recent research work developing a whole-body articulated Morphable Model for gait recognition. I've found Morphable Models a very exciting area to work in, both because of the potential they have for enabling extremely robust computer vision and because of the beautiful generative models they can produce. They are also an area where there is a lot of potential for future progress; hopefully, by the end of the talk you will feel the same way.
