Best paper award bonanza
Monday 8 March 2010
Since the last edition of the newsletter, papers produced by researchers from CVSSP received no less than three prestigious ‘best paper’ awards at three different conferences.
The paper “Assessing the Effects of Ambient Illumination Change in Usage Environment on 3D Video Perception for User Centric Media Access and Consumption” by Ms Gokce Nur, Dr Safak Dogan, Dr Hemantha Kodikara Arachchi and Prof Ahmet M. Kondoz of I-Lab/CVSSP, was awarded the best paper of the 2nd International ICST Conference on User Centric Media in Palma de Mallorca, Spain (1-3 September 2010). Dr Dogan (pictured) accepted the commemorative award on behalf of his co-authors.
The paper “Model and Score Adaptation for Biometric Systems: Coping With Device Interoperability and Changing Acquisition Conditions” by Norman Poh, Josef Kittler, Sebastien Marcel, Driss Matrouf and Jean-Francois Bonastre, was awarded the Best Scientific Paper Award (Track IV: Biometrics and Human Computer Interaction) at the 20th International Conference on Pattern Recognition 2010.
The paper “Local Ordinal Contrast Pattern Histograms for Spatiotemporal Lip-based Speaker Authentication” by Bud Goswami, Chi Ho Chan, Josef Kittler and Bill Christmas received the Best Student Paper Prize at the 4th IEEE International Conference on Biometrics: Theory, Applications and Systems, 2010.
This is a fantastic achievement by the CVSSP. Congratulations to all concerned, and in particular to the main authors!
