Biography

Lois's involvement with filmmaking began with the London Filmmaker's Co-op in the eighties and developed through pop-video production with directors such as Derek Jarman and John Maybury and freelance editing on broadcast documentaries mainly for the UK's Channel Four.  Lois has also produced and directed a number of documentaries and campaigning shorts focusing on human rights issues.

Lois has taught filmmaking in many different environments including in house training for New Dawn Video in Namibia, short courses in Avid for professionals at the Hoxton Centre in London, NVQ's for women prisoners and modules on BA and BSc Honours degrees in Media and Film Studies.

SCEPTrE fellow with Dr Jeremy Barham in the department of music and sound recording and leading a project with students across Dance, Film Music and Theatre highlighting the arts activities on campus.

 

Currently working on  'International Intervention on the Receiving End', lead by Professor Marie Breen-Smyth (Politics),  in partnership with the Universities of Birzeit in Palestine and Singidunum in Serbia. Project funded by the British Academy.

Jan 2010: Producer/Editor 'The Descent of the Angel' a 28min film documenting the recent work of vertical dancer Kate Lawrence

Feb 2009: Producer/Director 'At the Heart of Resistance' a 27min documentary made in Zimbabwe and following women campaigning for human rights in the run up to the 2008 elections.

2003 to Present: Several short campaigning films distributed via Youtube (18000 views at time of writing) and made for Zimbabweans campaigning on human rights and democracy issues.

June 2002: Producer/Director 'A Testimony of Torture' a short film documenting the arrest and torture of Zimbabwean Human Rights Lawyer Gabriel Shumba
