Undergraduate Study
Dance, Film and Theatre at the University of Surrey has the longest established degree programme in the discipline of Dance Studies in the UK. Its reputation is distinguished by intellectual rigour, highly qualified staff, its teaching resources and its international engagement.
The various undergraduate degrees combines theory with practice and nurture individual achievement in performance and academic excellence.
Surrey’s reputation for the employability of its students is demonstrated by the success of the professional training programme which allows students to gain vocational experience in a range of internationally recognised companies and institutions. For our students, this frequently leads to employment opportunities after graduation.

"I chose the University of Surrey because I heard good things about it, so I went to an open day and was taken back at the quality and beauty of its surroundings....the lectures and the lecturers are great and I’m learning more than I ever have. I am becoming more certain about the path I want to take in my future... I have recently decided it would be great to be a University lecturer and if I do well enough I would like to pursue this career path (although getting a Masters will be tough!). As you can tell the ‘honeymoon’ period of Surrey has yet to wear off as I still look forward to going to University everyday, I know it is hard work and it would have been easier if I had gone to a lower requirement University, but I want to make my future here."
Andrew Clancy, BA (Hons) Film Studies, class of 2012
- the blend of theory and practice in this course reflects the current dance scene as well as its employment market. This broad spectrum of the course is undoubtedly one of its major strengths.
