Eating and drinking

There are lots of places to grab a bite to eat or meet friends for a drink on campus. Chancellors serves a variety of meals perfect for refuelling after a day of lectures. Young’s Kitchen provides freshly cooked authentic Thai, Chinese, Japanese and Korean cuisine. If it’s a hot drink and a chat you need, we have three branches of Starbucks and a coffee bar called Sorrento. Hillside Restaurant and Lounge meets all your needs from breakfast to late lunch, with snacks and fresh food available.

If you need to eat on the go you can always pick up a snack on campus in the AppleSeed Bookshop, Hillside, the Union Shop or Amigo supermarket. When you’ve had a long day studying and fancy a break from the kitchen, you can even let our on-site pizza house deliver directly to your room.

Picturesque surroundings

Our campus has more than 300 different types of trees and over 1,000 different species of flowers. Together they provide beautiful and engaging scenery all year round.

Performing Arts Technology Studios (PATS)

Located a short walk along the spine road from the main entrance, this building is home to:

  • PATS Studio One – a flexible-capacity concert hall and sound-recording studio, seating up to 260, this is the primary performance space for music concerts at the University and hosts the weekly lunchtime and rush-hour concerts, which are free to all staff, students and the public
  • PATS Dance Studio – a multipurpose rehearsal and performance space for dance and theatre; this venue is also used for regular film screenings

Ivy Arts Centre

Many of our events take place in the £4.5 million Ivy Arts Centre, opened in June 2011.

Housed in a former sports building that became redundant with the opening of the University’s new Surrey Sports Park, the Ivy Arts Centre provides a theatre, studios, workshops, dressing rooms and various other spaces, including a large wardrobe store, costume-making room and laundry. The theatre seats 200 people and includes a box office, foyer and bar area.

The history of the University

Giving students a competitive edge for their future. That’s what we do, and it’s what we have been doing since our very first students passed through our doors in 1894.

The University was established with an aim to educate men and women who had a thirst for knowledge and a hunger to succeed. Whilst times have changed, our belief in the power of education and innovation remains the same.
