Part-time work

If you want to take on paid part-time work during your time at university, the Unitemps recruitment service can help you find a job to fit in around your studies.

For other local jobs, try searching local newspapers such as The Surrey Advertiser, contacting local recruitment agencies or approaching potential employers, such as Odeon cinema or Guildford Spectrum, directly.

The Careers Service can help you prepare for part-time job applications. Pop in for a CV check or for interview support.

To receive notifications about graduate job opportunities, sign up to the Careers Service online vacancy bulletin.

Professional Training fees and finances

Fees during your Professional Training placement year are substantially reduced to £1,050. For students from lower income households, this fee is waived entirely.

Most students on our Professional Training placement programme are paid a salary by their employers, which is a valuable source of income during their time at Surrey. For those who are on an unpaid placement, we have a fund to ensure they receive some financial support during their placement year.

The GOV.UK website offers a comprehensive guide to student finance.

Making the most of your money

Based in the Student Services Centre, our Student Advisers can advise on any financial problems or queries you may have, and try to ensure that your time as a student at Surrey runs as smoothly and problem-free as possible.

They can help you with things like:

  • General money advice
  • Tax and council tax
  • Benefits and part-time employment
  • Applying for hardship funds
  • Professional budgeting advice and a financial MOT
  • Debt advice
  • Legal signposting and checking contracts

Our tuition fees

Your degree is an investment in your future career. Here at Surrey, we add value to your academic learning with a Professional Training placement, acknowledged as one of the best of its kind in the world. Employers agree with us – we have an unrivalled track record for graduate employability over the last ten years. Latest available figures from the Higher Education Statistical Agency (HESA) show that 90 per cent of our recent graduates were in employment or further study.

We have set our tuition fees for UK/EU students on our undergraduate degree programmes at £9,000 per year, so that we can continue to deliver a wonderful education and a degree that is rated by your future employers.

UK/EU students on our NHS-funded programmes, such as Nursing, Midwifery, Operating Department Practice and Paramedic Practice, do not have to pay any tuition fees.

Little extras

As well as our scholarship schemes, we are working hard on other ways to help you finance your degree. We known that sometimes it’s the little things that make all the difference.

Laptop loan scheme – to help students who might otherwise struggle to purchase a new laptop if an old one breaks down Tax and National Insurance clinic – to help you get to grips with the world of work.

Student loan and funding checks – to make sure you are receiving exactly what you should be. We also have our own in-house recruitment agency, Unitemps, which is based on campus and offers a range of paid part-time work, both on- and off-campus.
