Our services and facilities are constantly being improved. We aim to create an environment which welcomes disabled and dyslexic students, enabling you to participate fully in university life.

Campus environment and accessibility

Situated on the side of Stag Hill not far from Guildford’s town centre, the University campus is self contained.

All facilities are close to each other and the campus setting offers a controlled environment to live and study. Staff are easily contactable and amenities are on hand.

As the campus is on the side of a hill, ground floor levels between buildings can vary widely. Level changes in footpaths are generally stepped which can cause difficulty for students with mobility problems. However, there are routes to most places on campus using ramps.

If you have mobility difficulties, you should also contact the Faculty Fire Officer (through the Academic Faculty Office) who will discuss an evacuation plan with you. We recommend that you visit the campus in advance to ensure that we meet your needs.

Assistive Technology Centre

Our Assistive Technology Centre (ATC) is based in the Library and is an invaluable resource for many students.

It utilises the potential of technology to support students with disabilities, offering specialist software and the potential to loan certain equipment.

Support and facilities

Many disabled students have concerns about access and support in Higher Education. We aim to make your transition to university life as smooth as possible.

How easy is it to get around the campus?

Most of the campus and its buildings are generally accessible to students with mobility difficulties.

Students who have most successfully managed the campus have powered wheel chairs, mobility scooters or use their own cars.

Disabled students: parking your car

There are numerous parking bays close to academic buildings and residential accommodation which are reserved for disabled drivers or their carers. Our Security Department will be able to advise the most suitable spaces for you to use.

Blue badge holders who are members of the University are automatically entitled to a University Disabled Permit free of charge. This entitles the holder to park in any of the University car parks and disabled bays for unlimited periods.

Non-blue badge holders who wish to have a University Disabled Permit because of an existing medical need may also be eligible, subject to confirmation from the Guildowns University Medical Centre or their own GP. Please note that standard prices apply to this type of disabled permit. All parking permit applications are made online and further information can be found at the following website:
