Surrey Health Economics Centre

The Surrey Health Economics Centre in the School of Economics (SHEC) brings together academic staff with shared interests in health-related issues.  Although it focuses on practical and policy-related topics, the research conducted is analytically and empirically rigorous.  Members of the SHEC have considerable experience in using a range of research methodologies and are well positioned to exploit expertise within the School of Economics in statistics and econometrics.

The SHEC is an important resource in the context of the University of Surrey’s recent and proposed expansion in the area of health and medical sciences. Members of the Group provide economics advice and practical input to a wide range of multidisciplinary health-related projects in the University of Surrey and the local NHS.  Many collaborations extend nationwide and internationally.

The SHEC is an integral part of the NIHR Research Design Service – South East, and provides health economics advice to health professionals and academics throughout Kent, Surrey and Sussex.

The SHEC actively encourages and supports postgraduate research students in health economics or health services as part of the School of Economics’ MPhil/ PhD programme, and in conjunction with the pursuit of an MD qualification.
