Economics Courses at Surrey

All the economics courses at Surrey are applied. Economics is related to 'real world' problems and the courses set out to teach the skills that are required of practising economists.

This orientation is further fostered by the opportunity to pursue a period of integrated Professional Training, spent outside the University, acquiring practical experience. Teaching on the courses is by lectures, tutorials, seminars and workshop sessions. The purpose is to use, rather than merely to study, economics. In tutorials, you will be encouraged to present your own ideas and to develop the verbal skills that will stand you in good stead for the future. Classes and workshops are essentially practical sessions in which you will develop the ability to apply and use economics. Students may enrol on either a three year course or a four year course that includes Professional Training. Through the Student Exchange Scheme with Michigan State University and the University of North Texas there is also the opportunity to spend the Second Year in one of these two American universities. In addition, there is also the possibility of spending time studying in Singapore.
