Undergraduate programmes (BSc Hons)

We offer three undergraduate programmes. Please click on the Factfile course links below for further information:

The second and third of these are exciting recent additions to our programmes. They were introduced following a thorough review to make sure that our programmes remain relevant, enjoyable and stimulating and to make use of some of our best commercial, City and Government contacts as well as our own research strengths.

All three programmes provide an opportunity to spend one year on a paid professional placement. For further details please see our Professional Placement page.

Additional Information

Student Involvement

We pride ourselves on our student-staff relations and have a number of ways to ensure that you have an influence on your experience with us:

  • Personal tutor: On joining us, you will be allocated a member of staff who will be your personal tutor, typically for your whole time with us. The personal tutor can help with academic or personal matters and will arrange to see you in every semester.
  • Student-Staff Liaison Committee and Programme Representatives: At the start of each academic year, each year group of each programme elects students who act as important links between students and staff. As well as informal meetings to discuss issues that may arise, all representatives are members of our Student-Staff Liaison Committee, which also involves two designated members of staff and meets twice every semester to discuss issues raised by students, and staff. Where necessary, actions follow and are reported back to you. Programme Representatives and the Student-Staff Liaison Committee played a significant role in the development of our new Business Economics with Finance and Business Economics programme.
  • Undergraduate Course Board: All programmes are discussed at the Course Board, which is held once per semester. Unlike the SSLC, all members of staff attend, as do Programme Representatives – again, there is specific provision for student business here, as well as opportunity for representatives to hear about and discuss plans for the programmes.
  • Economics Society: Our students run an active Economics Society.

In addition to these ways for you to become involved in the School, and your programme, there are numerous informal opportunities for interaction with us. You are welcome to contact us as/when issues arise and a number of social activities also bring staff and students together. These include the biennial Malthus Dinner, some Economics Society events and an end-of-year sports event involving staff and students in their final year. For the last four years, this has involved a football match and, when demand has permitted, a rounders match.

English language assistance

We appreciate that some students (especially those from overseas) may wish to invest time in their English language skills. The University’s Department of Language & Translation Studies runs a variety of modules designed to assist with this – including those with a specific focus on language for business. Depending on your language background, we may encourage you to attend such modules but all students are welcome to discuss these possibilities with the School. For more information, please see the Department of Language & Translation Studies website.
