Recruitment of New Chairs within the Department

The Department is currently recruiting for the following Chair positions:

Chair in Photonics

The Advanced Technology Institute (ATI) is seeking to expand its activity in Photonics and is looking for an individual with a strong international reputation in photonics in topics ranging from fundamental studies of light-matter interactions, material and device physics through to photonics systems for applications including energy, communications, the life-sciences and beyond.

Chair in Solar Energy

Sitting within the Advanced Technology Institute this appointment will lead an internationally recognised research programme on nano-engineered photovoltaic solar cell technologies (e.g. devices based on organics, hybrids, fullerene derivatives or semiconducting nanoparticles). This initiative is part of a strategy to build upon and draw together existing energy-related research activities, including energy policy research, a key institutional strength. It is feasible that an associated post at a junior level may accompany this Chair appointment in order to accelerate the impact of the research.

Chair in Satellite Engineering

The University of Surrey is seeking an outstanding candidate to appoint to the Chair of Satellite Engineering within the Surrey Space Centre (SSC), which forms part of the internationally renowned Department of Electronic Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences. The University is investing substantially in its space activities including an exciting new initiative to form a Space Engineering Innovation Hub in Guildford involving the Surrey Space Centre, the International Space Innovation Centre, Surrey (ISIC-Surrey), Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL) and EADS-Astrium. The new Chair will be sponsored by the Royal Academy of Engineering and SSTL.

Chair of Space Engineering
