Overview of the Department
The Department of Electronic Engineering is organised into four research centres - Advanced Technology Institute, Centre for Communication Systems Research, Centre for Vision, Speech and Signal Processing and the Surrey Space Centre. Each Centre contributes to the Department's teaching and the third year undergraduate project will be performed in one of these Centres.
We offer both MEng and BEng degrees in Electronic Engineering, Electronics and Computer Engineering, Space Technology and Planetary Exploration, Electronics with Satellite Engineering, Telecommunication Systems and two degree pathways in Media Engineering - Digital Media Engineering and Audio Media Engineering. However, we operate a common first year across all of our degree programmes so there is an opportunity to change your pathway once you have settled into University life and experienced further what is taught and what interests you. Our MEng degree is seen by industry as the qualification of choice and allows an easier route to the internationally recognised Chartered Engineer (CEng) status. It is possible for students initially enrolled for a BEng degree to change to the MEng degree depending on the academic performance whilst studying here.
We also offer a 12 month placement or professional training scheme at the end of your second year. Further information can be found on the University's professional training pages.
