The Mechatronic Systems & Robotics Research Group

The Mechatronic Systems and Robotics Research (MSRR) Group have been active in the field of robotics and automation since 1976. The group is led by Professor Graham Parker and consists of three academic and 3 full time researchers in addition to a number of research students and visiting overseas scholars.

The group is historically best known for its work in industrial robot calibration and, more recently, for its engineering approach to the development of robotic stereo vision systems. Current research themes include the use of augmented reality (AR), haptic feedback, and telepresence for operations in remote or hazardous environments; advanced specialist vehicular technologies (including sensors for mobile vehicles, sewer robots and autonomous road sweepers) and machine vision for automated inspection and non-destructive testing (NDT). Links to more details on these current research activities can be found here.

As well as our research activities we also teach courses to undergraduate (BEng and MEng), graduate MPhil/PhD, and modular MSc in Advanced Manufacturing Management Technology (AMMT) students.
