Surrey New Writers Festival Literary Contests
Open to UG and PG English and English and Creative Writing students at the University of Surrey
The Lewis Elton Gallery Ekphrastic Poetry Prize
Students may submit up to two (2) ekphrastic poems inspired by the The Weak Force Collaborative Art Installation that will be showing as part of the 2013 Guildford International Music Festival at the University of Surrey’s Lewis Elton Gallery from March 12-28, 2013.
The 2013 Prize will be judged by Patricia Grayburn, Chair of the Board of the Guildford Book Festival and the Executive Director of the Guildford International Music Festival.
The winner will be announced at a University of Surrey literary event in May and will be presented with a £45 gift voucher from the Appleseed Bookshop.

The deadline is midnight GMT, Friday, March 29th. Please email submissions as a PDF or Word attachment to h.luhning@surrey.ac.uk. Submissions must have “Lewis Elton Poetry Prize” as the subject line and be sent from your Surrey email account.
**Please note that any submissions received after the deadline, are not sent from a Surrey email account, or do not have the correct subject title will not be accepted. You must be a University of Surrey English or Creative Writing student to enter the contest.
The Haywood Prose Prize
Students may submit a fiction or creative non-fiction manuscript of 25,000 words. The manuscript may be an excerpt from a longer work such as a novel; it may also be a collection of short stories or essays, or a novella.
The 2013 Prize will be judged by Samantha Haywood, literary agent with the Transatlantic Literary Agency.
The winner will be announced at a University of Surrey literary event in May and will presented with a £45 gift voucher from the Appleseed Bookshop.
