The purpose of the "Day School" events within our year-long PGR training programme is to create an opportunity for members of staff and PGR students to come together for a two-day symposium.
PGR students and members of staff give 20-minute papers within structured panels. Student presentations draw upon recently researched parts of PhD dissertation projects within the School of English and Languages. Panels are chaired by members of staff and students get feedback from other students and academics other than their supervisors. Staff members offer papers on topics of interest for PGR students (the topics are generally chosen by the students in advance of the Day School.) Students and staff continue discussions informally during the lunch and tea breaks; on each day appropriate entertainment is included in the programme: the showing of artistic films, guest lectures and presentations of creative writing.
