Love Languages? Live Languages!
Thursday 16 February 2012
For the second year running, Routes South held its “Love Languages? Live Languages!” conference for schools at the University of Brighton.
Participating universities were invited to hold a stall in the “market place” where around 200 conference participants were able to visit in rotation during the morning.
Once again, the University of Surrey had an appealing stall, adorned with balloons and offering language bugs, pretzels and free copies of İToma la Palabra! as well as information on our courses (English and foreign language degree courses, GGA). The most useful part was being able to talk with the potential students and find out more about their plans and aspirations with languages and offer suggestions, information and, we hope, inspiration.
It was good to hear that one student who had been at the conference last year still had the language bug we had given her then (and wanted another one to keep it company).
Another student was hoping to come to Surrey (to study science). As someone currently taking German A level, she was interested in carrying on with the GGA programme (although, unlike French, this is not available at the moment at the higher levels).
A teacher whose daughter has recently applied to the University of Surrey to study Psychology spontaneously congratulated us on the personalised letter that had been received as she had been most impressed!
