Languages on the Move trip to Broadwater School on 20 June 2012

Thursday 2 August 2012

University delegation consisted of:
Liz Avis and Birgit Linton: co-ordinators
Isabelle Esser: Presenter of talk (on translation and how useful languages are)
Shihong Turner: Chinese language taster tutor
Oksana Titova: Russian language taster tutor

We offered a Languages on the Move event to Broadwater School in particular, as it is a local state school with low levels of language take-up at GCSE.  The school has not participated in our languages days in the past, but Steve Howard’s enthusiasm when contacted resulted in Broadwater taking two Languages in Education 2nd year module students from Surrey.  The contact flourished and the school was keen to accept our offer of a Language on the Move visit.   In essence, the visit is a condensed version of our Languages Days, but with us going out to schools rather than them coming to us at the University.

This event was made possible with funding from Outreach.
