University's Professional Training Student of the Year 2012 - Mariana Vieira

Monday 17 December 2012

It has been announced that School of English and Languages student, Mariana Vieira, is the University's Professional Training Student of the Year.

Mariana is a final year student on the BSc in Business Management and English for International Communication.  She spent her placement year as a Marketing Assistant for Therakos, a franchise of Johnson & Johnson, in Wokingham.  Forty students were nominated for the award from across the University, and the top three nominees were all from the Faculty of Arts and Human Sciences.  Mariana's final presentation and interview were judged to be of the highest quality in the face of stiff competition.

Mariana is one of the inaugural cohort of students of English for International Communication.  A Portuguese-speaker from Brazil, she has developed her English language skills to a very high level.  Her language and intercultural skills gave her the edge during her placement year, giving her the opportunity to travel around Europe.  She was recognised by Johnson & Johnson with a Gold Encore Award in recognition of her outstanding commitment to the Therakos marketing team.
