The corpus of Russian regional dialects – acoustic database with discourse annotation
The online database will present regional variation in Russian, a language of tremendous geographic breadth and of remarkable linguistic diversity. Multilevel annotation will be applied to a large set of audio data recorded in a wide range of locations, from Siberia and Far East to Southern Russia. This will lead to models of possible interaction between phonology, morphology, syntax, lexicon, discourse and socio-linguistic factors. On completion of the project, the corpus with a search engine will be presented online and all materials including high quality audio recordings will be available for download. The project is funded by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft and is carried out at the Linguistic Laboratory of the Ruhr University Bochum (PI – Professor Christian Sappok), Technical University of Bochum (Hochschule), Berlin State Library and at the Surrey Morphology Group, University of Surrey (PI – Professor Greville G. Corbett, researcher - Dr Alexander Krasovitsky).
