Biography
Cathy Howard joined the University of Surrey in 2009 and co-ordinates the English Language Support Programme. Before joining the University she worked for thirteen years in the Further Education sector, primarily managing and teaching programmes in English for Speakers of other Languages. She was also responsible for teacher training, staff development and quality improvement.
Cathy holds an MA in English Language Teaching from the University of Reading, is a Fellow of the Institute for Learning and a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.
Cathy is enthusiastic about developing opportunities for home and international students to share cultural experiences and language skills and has set up and coordinates the University's "tandem" learning scheme "LACES" .
Teaching
Cathy delivers modules on the degree programme in English for International Communication, along with a wide range of English Language Support (ELSP) courses, such as Dissertation Writing, Critical Thinking and Grammar Revision.
Departmental Duties
Cathy is responsible for coordinating the English Language Support Programme (ELSP), which offers English Language support to all undergraduate and postgraduate students who need help with communication during the course of their studies. She is also the English Language Professional Placement Coordinator and Coordinator of the University's Language and Culture Exchange Scheme, LACES.
