Biography

Doris is Lecturer in German and Programme Director for the BSc Business Management & Language programmes. She is teaching a range of German language and culture modules and UG and PG modules on professional communication.

After gaining an MA in Germanic and Literatures from the University of Kansas, Doris completed a PhD in Applied Linguistics at the University of Southampton. Before joining the University of Surrey in 2008, she worked as German language tutor and lecturer at the University of Kansas, the University of Science and Technology Shanghai, the University of Southampton and the University of Plymouth.

Research Collaborations

Doris is currently principal investigator on an AHRC-funded project on businesses' language and cultural barriers in international trade (Project "Arctic")

She has also conducted research on communication in culturally diverse university classrooms and has developed a web-based resource on professional communication as part of a SCEPTrE fellowship.

Teaching

Departmental Duties

Doris is programme director for the joint Business Management & Languages programmes and liaison lecturer for joint programmes on which the School of English & Languages ollaborates with other departments.
