Biography
James Arnold has been a part-time tutor in English for Academic Purposes at the University of Surrey since 2001. In addition to teaching, he has produced materials and tests for the English Language Support Programme, and coordinated the Pre-Sessional English for Management course.
He holds an LLB, the RSA Diploma in TEFLA, and an MSc in Applied Linguistics from the University of Edinburgh.
From 1991 to 2001 he worked in Norway, running the English department of an adult education centre. His experience prior to that included a period at Pitman Examinations Institute (now part of City and Guilds) where he managed a major project to revise their examinations in English for Speakers of Other Languages.
He has extensive experience in the design and delivery of English for Specific Purposes programmes, and has a particular interest in Legal English. He has been a consultant with Cambridge ESOL for a number of years and is currently chair of the ILEC (International Legal English Certificate) Reading Paper.
