Biography
My career with linguistics started back in Poland where I acquired a Bachelor’s degree in Polish Philology. Having moved to the United Kingdom, I taught English-Polish translation to A-level students in London. In order to improve my translation knowledge, I decided to undertake a master course in this field. Shortly after, I started interpreting for Polish community in England. As a legal interpreter, I discovered that poor interpretation may influence the communication between the parties. Currently, I am doing my doctoral research on a part-time basis.
Research Interests
The main objective of my research is to investigate the interpreters’ performance during tape-recorded interviews at police stations in England. To achieve this goal, I am planning to take a closer look at the factors which can cause that interpreters make mistakes, i.e. qualifications, experience, stress and tiredness, etc. as well as to analyse mistakes made by interpreters during police interviews. To attain my objectives, I have the helping hand of my supervisor Professor Margaret Rogers and co-supervisor Dr Sabine Braun.
