Progression to Masters programme
The Preparation course is designed both to prepare students and to assess whether they have the necessary skills to be successful on the MA programme. For that reason, acceptance on the Master’s programme is dependent upon passing the assessment at the end of this preparatory course. The weekly assessments will make up 30% of your final assessment mark. The remaining 70% will come from the final test. The pass mark is 50%. Students are required to attend all classes.
Course Structure
There are two days of whole-group classes per week, as well as tutorials. In addition students will be required to complete two projects per week. It is expected that each project will require an average of 2 days of guided but individually organised study. Students will be required to focus on presenting a coherent account of a given issue, using facts and figures and based on information from a wide range of sources.
Projects
Tutors will provide guidance on how to carry out projects. Tutors will mark and give feedback on each presentation. Sample topics could include:
UK – the Nation
Parliamentary democracy
UK energy strategy
