About the Dissertation Writing Classes and Dissertation Checking

This course is designed to help you if you are preparing to write a dissertation or thesis; we will cover writing, study and research skills. You will qualify for individual tutorials if you attend regularly.

If you attend all 9 classes in a Dissertation Writing course, you may qualify for Dissertation marking support.

Applications for this service will be accepted between 18th June and 27th July 2012.  If you qualify for the service, you can request a tutor to check one chapter of your dissertation.  The tutor will check the chapter and highlight grammar, spelling and punctuation errors.   You will also receive brief overall feedback on the general academic style, layout etc.  Please note that we do not provide a full proofreading service, and that any questions about content should be discussed with your dissertation supervisor.

We can only accept a limited number of chapters for checking at any one time. We will accept them on a first come, first served basis.  If there is no tutor available at the time you request, we will try to offer you an alternative time, but please note that we will not accept any more applications for the service after 27th July.

If you wish to apply for this service, please visit the School of English and Languages in the Library and Learning Centre, 15LC03.  You will be given a form to complete.  If your application is accepted, a date will be agreed when you can submit your chapter both in hard copy and by email.   If you miss this date, you will lose the opportunity to have your chapter checked.

At busy times it may take up to 3 weeks to check and return your chapter and feedback.  The earlier you apply for the service and submit your chapter, the more quickly we are likely to be able to check and return it.
