English Language Programmes
To benefit fully from an undergraduate or postgraduate degree programme at the University of Surrey, all students will need a good standard of English language.
The School of English and Languages offers year- round English language preparation courses and summer English language preparation courses (pre-sessional) for students who do not have the level of English required to join a degree programme directly, or for students who meet their degree programme requirements but wish to improve their English and study skills before the start of the programme.
Depending on the level of your English, you can take 5, 10, 20, 30 or 40 weeks of English language preparation. A fee is charged for these courses.
Our English language courses are taught by highly experienced, professional tutors who combine state-of-the-art teaching methods with up-to-date insights from linguistic research. The classes give you the opportunity to increase your confidence by improving your English skills and meeting fellow students. This will maximise your chances of academic and professional success and help you make the most of your time at Surrey.
In addition to group English language courses the School of English and Languages offers private English tuition which can be tailored to suit your individual needs.
For students studying an undergraduate or postgraduate degree at the University of Surrey, the School of English and Languages also offers a free English Language Support Programme (ELSP) to help with your English during your time at Surrey.
The School of English and Languages is also a British Council accredited test centre for the internationally recognised IELTS examination and offers a number of test dates as well as IELTS preparation courses.
