Student Awards 2012
The awards, held on Thursday 17th May in Wates House, recognise the achievements of those individuals and societies who have contributed significantly to the student community through their involvement in Student Union activities and beyond. This year’s big winners were Kirsty Stubbs (Level 3 Psychology) who won the prestigious Outstanding Contribution to the Student Community award and the Stage Crew society, a group of volunteers who set up the sound and lighting for so many events across the campus (including the Awards night itself).
All awards were nominated for by the student population before different panels poured through the 600 nominations across the categories. All those shortlisted for awards were invited to share in everyone’s success whether they won or lost themselves
A special mention goes to the recipient of the Academic of the Year award, Lynne Millward of the Psychology department who sadly died this year. The award, to be renamed the Lynne Millward Award for the Academic of the Year, was presented by Andrea Dlaska and was received by her brother. The quantity of the nominations received were a glowing tribute to the work she did throughout her years here at the University.
