Biography
Molly moved to Surrey in April 2009 from the University of Reading where she worked as a reader and later a professor. Molly is a qualified nurse with a background in Intensive Care. Her main area of research expertise is concerned with the development of advanced practice and new models of care delivery specifically deriving from the development of independent prescribing capability by nurses and other health professionals i.e. non-medical prescribers (NMPs). Her research has provided support for revised prescribing regulation and assisted service providers understand how NMP can be used in service redesign.
Molly has led and been involved in a number of projects in this area including work funded by Strategic Health Authorities, charities, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, the Department of Health and the pharmaceutical industry. She has also worked as a member of several grant awarding bodies including the RfPB NIHR programme and the Science and Research Advisory Group, Diabetes UK.
Molly undertook a secondment with the Royal College of Nursing between 2003-2008, where she worked as the national Prescribing and Medicines Management Adviser. She is a member of the Nursing and Midwifery Council group responsible for designing the prescribing training programme and setting national standards for medicines management and prescribing education and practice throughout the UK. She is the Chair of the national Nurse Prescribers’ Advisory Group, and also represents the Council of Deans on the NICE Steering group tasked with developing a single competency framework for prescribers.
Molly had published over 60 articles in peer reviewed journals and authored and edited 8 books in the field of NMP (some of which are listed as core text for NMP students and have been highly commended in the BMA medical book awards competition).
Molly is a Visiting Professor at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at the University of California, Davis, USA.
