Biography

I have been an academic /practitioner ever since my MA in Clinical Psychology. My Doctorate from Oxford University was on Ethnic Minority Identity and was published as a book (see Publications).

I am currently running the IAPT Low Intensity Course which is a one year training programme teaching people Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Skills to treat mild to moderate depression and anxiety in Primary Care.

Along with four other mental health practitioners, I founded a Residential Therapeutic Community in New Delhi called Aashiana. I was also a founding member of TARSHI (Talking About Reproductive Health Issues) which is a telephone helpline.

I was one of the Editors of a leading mental health journal in India called Psychological Foundations- The Journal.

I was also Head of the Psychology Department at a well know college in New Delhi.

• Mental health: Ethnic and national identity as it relates to psychological well-being in Asian Adolescents
• Ethnic minority identity in British Asians in particular British Muslims
• Primary Care Graduate Mental Health Workers
• Mental health: Getting into flow to get out of dysphoric moods
• Social Psychology: The social psychology of double minorities: Indian women in LA and Britain.
