WHAT IS THE GREAT LOOK UP?
The Great Look Up has been created to do one thing; get people to look up at the stars.
2009 is the International Year of Astronomy and as part of a summer that has already celebrated the 40th anniversary of man setting foot on the Moon, the University of Surrey and Guildford Astronomical Society have teamed to present an opportunity for people of all ages to join in a huge star-gazing event.
The Great Look Up is also a prelude to the British Science Festival, taking place across Surrey between 5 - 10 September, with a large part of the programme being undertaken at the University of Surrey, Guildford.
This unique event will bring together families and friends to join astronomers from across the South East, who will be sharing their telescopes and other instruments to show as many people as possible the wonders of the night's sky.
The event will also include guest speakers, an expert workshop to help people get the most out of their telescopes, some fascinating interactive activities, a big summer BBQ and is open to all people with an interest in finding out more about astronomy.
