Official Opening for Department of Health Care Management and Policy

Wednesday 12 September 2012

Tuesday 11 September saw the official opening of the University of Surrey’s Department of Health Care Management and Policy. To mark the occasion Anne Milton MP unveiled a plaque and met academics and researchers. Based in the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law the Department has been built up over the last year as a result of demand for courses in health care management and the opportunity to bring together research expertise in patient safety, health informatics and management of health care organisations.

“I’m delighted to be able to show Anne what we’ve achieved over the last year to establish the department. We’ve recruited some of the leading academics in this field and already have a strong body of research we can be proud of.” Stated Professor Terry Desombre, Head of the Department of Health Care Management and Policy.

The department regularly teaches NHS managers on its highly regarded MSc in Health Care Management and has recently completed the first summer school in Health Informatics aimed at improving the quality of information gathered from patients for diagnostic and research purposes.

Anne Milton has a long association with the University of Surrey, and the NHS, and is keen to see how the work of the department is influencing health practice and policy.
