Getting to the Heart of the Matter
Thursday 20 September 2012

Excellent news has reached us from Greece, where Dr Khaled Sadek of the Health Care Management and Policy team won the best oral presentation prize at the recent fifth annual European Primary Care Cardiovascular Society (EPCCS) conference in Athens. Khaled’s presentation focused on the use of medical informatics to bridge the gap between IT and clinical practice in order to reduce cardiovascular disease, particularly in patients suffering from chronic kidney disease and concurrent anaemia. His illustration of the work of the School of Health Care Management and Policy’s Primary Care and Informatics Group also included a poster display.
The work of the EPCCS and the Informatics Group remains in sharp focus with news that cardiovascular disease continues to be the single most important disease presenting to primary care physicians in Europe and the commonest cause of premature death.
