Professional Preparatory - Pre-Registration Programmes
- How do I find full details and start dates for each programme?
All programmes commence in September/ October except for the BSc (Hons) Midwifery 78wk programme which commences in June. We also have a March intake for the Adult Nursing Diploma in Higher Education. For further details on each programme please review the following link- Undergraduate Study
- How do I apply?
For all Degree programmes, apply online through UCAS (University & Colleges Admissions Service) Tel: 0870 1122211 www.ucas.com
Your UCAS personal statement should indicate to us;
• Why you feel you are suited to the profession.
• Insight of what Nursing/Midwifery/ODP/Paramedic Practice involves
• Detail of your experience in a care environment or other relevant positions of responsibility.
• How your skills match those required to be a Nurse/Midwife/ODP/Paramedic.
Please note the 78 wk BSc (Hons) Midwifery shortened programme is only available to qualified Nurses. You must apply online through UCAS. UCAS applications can be made from mid-September and we would urge candidates to apply as soon as possible after this.
For 2nd NMC Registration shortened programmes, apply online through UCAS, giving detailed information of your previous registration.
- What are the entry requirements for each programme?

- Are there any other requirements?
• You need to be eligible to have your fees paid by the NHS – please check online at www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/students
• You can be sponsored by your Trust if already in employment (please contact your Trust for further information and approval)
• All offers are conditional on satisfactory occupational health checks and successful Criminal Records Bureau checks
• You must be able to follow 24 hour/7-day shift pattern and to meet travel requirements for placements- I have a previous reprimand, caution, conviction or bindover which might appear on my CRB check. Can I still apply for a place?
Yes you can apply, but you need to declare the issue both on your application form and at interview. These will always appear on your CRB and they are not time limited, so whenever the incident occurred you need to honestly declare it so that appropriate enquiries can be made prior to offering you a place.
- When should I apply?
You should apply online through UCAS from mid-September ( www.ucas.com & Tel: 0870 1122211)
.The deadline is the 15th of January. Applications received after the UCAS deadline may not be considered after this date.
- What happens if I am made an offer?
If you are offered a place – the offer will be unconditional or conditional. An unconditional offer is made if you already meet the entrance requirements and have the evidence to show this.
A conditional offer is made if you still have conditions to meet, for example you are still studying or further references are required. Please carefully check UCAS track for details of your specific conditions.
All offers are dependant upon successful clearance of Occupational Health & CRB checks. It is vital that you meet all your conditions before starting the course.
- I have been made an offer, when will I receive my induction pack?
All pre-registration student will receive their programme induction packs at least one month before the programme commences
- How much does a programme cost?
You need to be eligible to have your fees paid by the NHS as the tuition costs are unable to be privately funded – please check online at www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/students as to the criteria
- What is a bursary?
A Bursary is an annual payment awarded to cover day to day living costs for students whilst they are studying. It is not subject to Income Tax or National Insurance contributions. It is paid by the NHS Student Grants Unit (SGU).
