Two New Prizes

Monday 26 November 2012

The School of Health and Social Care is offering two new prizes (funded from the International Centre for Nursing Ethics and the journal Nursing Ethics):

1) The ICNE Dignity in Care Prize

2) The ICNE Healthcare Student Ethical Practice Prize

These prizes have been inspired by the following editorial: 'Acknowledging small acts of kindness'.

1) The ICNE Dignity in Care Prize

A prize of £75 and a certificate for a registered nurse who prioritises patient dignity in her/his everyday practice responding sensitively to the needs of patients and their families in challenging circumstances. The nurse must: demonstrate effective and creative leadership to promote dignifying care practices; demonstrate respectful attitudes and behaviours towards patients, families, colleagues and students: and be recognised as a positive and inspiring role model for student nurses and other colleagues. Registered nurses can be nominated by a Director of Nursing, healthcare student or practice colleague.

Please submit a nomination for this prize to nursing-ethics@surrey.ac.uk by 9th July 2012. Please clearly mark your email ‘Staff Nurse Ethics Prize nomination’. In your email you need to state the name and practice area of the staff nurse nominated and your contact details.

For the nomination to be considered you need to provide a description of the practice of this staff nurse and explain why you think he or she is deserving of the Dignity in Care Prize (we suggest 1000 words maximum).
