Dominic Twinn - shortlisted for the Cavell Nurses' Trust Scholarship Award

Surrey university student Dominic Twinn has been shortlisted for a prestigious nursing scholarship award offered by the UK’s leading charity for nurses.
Dominic, a student nurse at Surrey University, was selected from dozens of hopefuls from around the UK who applied for the recently-launched Cavell Nurses’ Trust Scholarship Awards.
The winners of the five categories will each receive up to £2,000 to fund expenses incurred on tailor-made work placements, enabling them to further their nursing studies in the area of their choice. The runner up in each category will win a Sony Vaio laptop computer. The categories for entry are:
• The Edith Cavell Leadership Award
• Outstanding Academic Achievement Award
• Outstanding Student Nurse Award
• Community Award
• Outstanding Student Midwife Award
Judging of all five categories of the awards took place on 1st February at The Nursing and Midwifery Council.
The two judging panels, made up of Trustees of Cavell Nurses’ Trust, professional nurses and nursing and midwifery academic university heads of faculty, interviewed 23 shortlisted candidates.
Jasmin Rana, the Awards Co-ordinator said: “The judges felt that the students were all of an exceptionally high calibre, which made the task of selecting the five winners and runners-up even more difficult. They were also very inspired by some of the individuals that were interviewed.”
One of the successful nominees, Daniel Morris, a third year student nurse from, Southampton University, said: “I feel very honoured to have this opportunity. It has already made a huge impact on my confidence and self-belief, but if it goes further, both prizes would be so beneficial to my career and future development.”
