Biography
First degree in Physiology & Zoology, London University. Trained as a graduate at Charing Cross Hospital in London in 1985. Became a staff nurse in recovery for a year then went into practice nursing running the treatment room and various immunisation and vaccination clinics. Involved in research into Acute Otitis Media and medical information technology systems uploading data, providing training. Became a sister at Epsom General Hospital running a urea breath–test clinic liaising with Gastro–enterology consultants. Then trained as a science teacher at Kingston University and taught 11-18 year olds Biology leading to Qualified Teacher Status. Since 2001 have been teaching at FHMS developing blended learning methodologies/Health Informatics.
Higher Education Academy membership gained in 2004. Awarded Teaching with New Technology award in January 07. Given Surrey Centre for Excellence in Professional Training and Education ( SCEPTrE) fellowship in September 2007 this has led to the development of a series of enhanced podcasting linking anatomy & physiology with practice and a wiki produced as a resource for staff about teaching with new technologies. I have recently implemented online multiple choice bioscience exams for Common Foundation Programme students and have developed the bioscience thread throughout the new curriculum
Research Interests
Blended learning methodologies. Use of mobile learning technologies. Presented papers at International Mobile Learning conference in October 2008 and at Nursing and Midwifery School, Trinity College in Dublin November 2008. Learning to be Professional Conference, SCEPTrE. March 09.
Currently leading a project on e-learning innovations within the curriculum; widening access initiatives project. European Union Project using ICT. Member of e-learning practitioner’s network; eSpace Health Informatics Community; JISC email podcasting group
