Biography
Dr Jill Shawe has extensive experience of working in the field of primary care & women's health as a Midwife, Health Visitor and Reproductive Health Nurse and in nursing and midwifery education and research. Jill has a PhD in The Prevention of Unplanned Pregnancy in Women with Diabetes Mellitus and was awarded a CBRC Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at UCL to develop nursing and patient care research in reproductive sexual health. Jill has a particular interest in preconception and postnatal care and has been project lead for a DH Policy Research Programme grant: Pre-pregnancy Health & Care in England: Exploring Implementation and Public Health Impact. Jill has been instrumental in forming a European Pre-pregnancy Research Collaboration bringing together EU and other countries to work together in this emergent area of research. Other interests include involving patients in research and working with vulnerable groups. In 2010 she received a Beacon Bursary and set up a Research and Innovation forum with an NHS Trust and UCL. In 2012 Jill received a Burdett Nursing Trust grant: Improving the Sexual health of Homeless Women– to evaluate the sexual health needs of women and men attending St Mungo’s Hostels by providing on site care. Jill has recently taken up the post of Reader in Midwifery Practice at the University of Surrey and will be continuing with her interests and developing research in the area of maternal health care.
